Just Finales

After investing so much time and energy into watching an entire run of a TV show, its finale can  be heart-breaking, life-changing, fury-inducing, or all of the above. This week, we’ve decided to make a (non-comprehensive) list of shows we’ve watched all the way through and snippets of our reactions to their finales.

Nathan’s List

Justice League Unlimited: EPIC!!

Superman punches darkseid

How I Met Your Mother: Odd choice for an ending, but tolerable.

Avatar: The Last Airbender: EPIC!!

Leverage: A little rushed, but still stole my heart.

Kim Possible: Booyah!

Family Matters: Urkel in space, what!?

Friends: Freakin Finally! a.k.a Ross and Rachel, for reals tho’

Danny Phantom: Sweet, but surprisingly underwhelming.

Psych: The feels in the last 15 minutes, tho’ (Plus Monk reference!)

Batman The Brave and the Bold: tongue-in-cheek campiness but still genuinely heartfelt.

Codename Kids Next Door: all the childhood feels.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003)/Turtles Forever: Cowabunga!

The Proud Family: Unexpected

Spiderman The Animated Series: That’s where it ends!?

Teacher’s Pet: Underrated fun.

Green Lantern The Animated Series: Aya, NO!!

Young Justice: So, why was this cancelled again?

Avengers Earth’s Mightiest Heroes: No, seriously. Why was this cancelled!?

Dan Vs.: Wait, it’s over?

Phineas and Ferb: underwhelming, but not bad.

Legend of Korra: Epic battles, and great character development.

Spectacular Spiderman: poor Spidey.

Camp Lazo: ok, I really did not see that coming.

Star Wars Clone Wars (2008): Amazing. Unique. Deep.

Back at the Barnyard: …huh.

Beware the Batman: better than expected.

Courage the Cowardly Dog: unexpected feels.

Sym-Bionic Titan: well, it got more of an ending than Samurai Jack did.

Ed, Edd n Eddy: D’awww

Cowboy Bebop: Loved it, but I wish there was an epilogue.

Jordan’s List

Buffy, the Vampire Slayer: That final smile still gives me chills. Epic.chosen

Angel, the Series: Devastating, but weirdly hopeful.

Firefly: “Objects in Space” is a perfect episode, but not meant to be a finale. We can talk about Serenity elsewhere….

Wonderfalls: A fittingly surreal ending for one of the greatest and weirdest little shows ever.

Pushing Daisies: Disappointing, but that isn’t really the show’s fault.

Veronica Mars: This finale was dark and fractured and felt incomplete, and I really liked it.

Mad Men: I wept. Super satisfying.

How I Met Your Mother: I disliked this finale so strongly, it tainted the entire show retroactively.

Avatar: the Last Airbender: So great. So so great.

Party Down: Pulls together threads from the series that you didn’t even know were there and spins them into a compelling, emotionally affecting, character driven finale that elevates the entire series. Cannot say enough good things. This is how you do a finale.

Leverage: Yesssss. That is all.

United States of Tara: Good, but it felt like we were bailing in the middle of the story.

Dollhouse: Mmm, it’s been a while, but I loved this finale. Some awesome character moments.

Cowboy Bebop: Dang, so solid. Heartbreaking, lovely, dreamlike, just everything I loved about this series distilled into this episode.

Parks & Recreation: The great thing about this show was the characters, and this finale was a fitting sendoff

Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp: Not actually sure if this is the series finale, but everything about it is perfect.

Video Game High School: Excellent, just like the series.

Better Off Ted: I don’t remember this finale very well, but go watch this show ‘cause it’s awesome.
